THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL WHITE TRUFFLE HUNTING COMPETITION HELD IN 2018
In 2018, Zigante organized the International White Truffle Hunting Competition for the first time
Only one dog per hunter was allowed, without a leash, and each dog had exactly 8 minutes to find eight white truffles. When time ran out, each truffle hunter presented their truffles to the judges’ table. The jury judged according to the following criteria: the number of truffles extracted, the relationship between the dog and the truffle hunter, persistence in truffle hunting, finding and extracting truffles, and finally the passion for truffle hunting.
At the very first international competition, the dog Szalka brought victory to its owner Balazs Harsagya from Hungary. A dozen competitors from Croatia, Slovenia and Hungary registered, mostly with dogs of the lagotto breed. Most of them do not engage in traditional truffle hunting, but rather plantation foraging. Rudolf Kare from Križevci with his dog Zara finished second, and Ivica Kalčić from Livade and his dog Lola finished third. The winners received valuable prizes.
